A. Katherine King Obituary

“I have competed well: I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award me on that day.” (2 Tim 4: 7-8)

A. Katherine “Kathy” King finished her time with us on July 27, 2021 and has returned to her heavenly home with our dear Lord and her son, Russ (Jr). She was a beautiful example to her husband and children of God’s unconditional love. From the time she was a little girl she prayed she would marry the right man and felt that God had answered her prayers when she married Russ King 66 years ago.

She often said that the greatest sound in the world was when her children would come home from school and say “Hi Mom, I’m home! Something really smells good!” During the 23 years she worked at the University of Akron, she said she always felt like a “displaced homemaker.” Being a homemaker, wife and mother and grandmother was her greatest vocation.

Her greatest earthly blessings were her husband Russ and their children and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Margie Wrobel and her son, Russ (Jr.) who was murdered at age 22.

She is survived by her husband, Russ; and their children, Bob (Brenda) Mary (Troy Ralph) John (Katie) and Jim (Roberta); grandchildren, Jessica, Brian, Terra, Joshua, Londyn, Maya, Ian, Alexi, Nikita and Misha; great-grandchildren, Everett, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Joshua, and brother, Herb Robbins of Los Gatos, California.

Kathy and Russ lived the first year of married life on Guam while Russ served in the Corps of Engineers, U S Army, and from there traveled to Hong Kong and the Philippines. For many years they enjoyed camping, boating and water skiing with their children. After their children were grown, they traveled to the Holy Land, El Salvador, Nova Scotia and took many trips to Florida. Kathy was also dearly loved the people of the Catholic Missions in El Salvador and traveled there 5 times while son John was a Catholic Missionary there.

Kathy faithfully gave the Lord the first half-hour of each day in Scripture reading and intercessory prayer. Together with her husband, she was active in the Cursillo, taught Life in the Spirit seminars and Growth in the Holy Spirit seminars both in Akron and in Cleveland. They also gave many talks on God’s blessing them with forgiveness of their son Russ’ murderer. In recent years they were active in the helping American Red Cross in Disasters. Kathy has also been a volunteer at St Thomas Hospital for 14 years. Russ and Kathy were active in the Charismatic Prayer Group at St Hilary Church.

Kathy’s final wish for her family and friends is to love God fervently, pray often, forgive, forgive, forgive, forgive and forgive some more and love, enjoy each other and use their gift of time to help others.
