September 10, 1928- November 23, 2018

Jay Homer  Murdock, age 90, went to be with the Lord on November 23, 2018 at his home in Akron, Ohio after a long illness. Jay was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and graduated from South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating  from high school he joined the Navy in 1946. He served on two ships, the USS Putnam and the USS Gainard. His specialty in the Navy was electronics. Jay was honorably discharged 1948. He received the World War II victory medal. Under the GI bill, Jay enrolled at Purdue University and studied electrical engineering because of his interest acquired during his time in the Navy.

Jay was a member of good standing in the Tau Beta Pi engineering fraternity.  After graduation Jay was recruited by the Goodyear Aircraft Corporation in Akron, Ohio and started his career as an electrical engineer on July 1, 1951. Jay was employed at Goodyear for 39 years. In 1963 he was appointed the position of manager of military electronics engineering in the Avionics Engineering Division. He was the central programmer for the high-resolution radar system for the Navy’s RF-4C aircraft.

Jay enjoyed fishing, refining his property by using his engineering and woodworking skills building beautiful fences and walkways adjacent to the Metroparks that abutted his backyard. Jay also cheered for his beloved Steelers and Pirates and enjoyed quiet time with his family. Every Wednesday Jay would enjoy breakfast with some of his neighbors for many, many years.

Jay will be remembered for being a loving father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Jay was also loved by many others. Jay had a wonderful smile and wry sense of humor.

Jay is preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Murdock Conrad; father, Jay Homer Murdock Sr.; step-father, Joseph Conrad; first wife, Mildred “Dolly” Murdock; second wife, Margie Murdock; step-son, Gary Pyle and grandson Arpad Andras Batizy.

My deepest condolences to Jay's family. Jay and I worked together for many years, and we became good friends.
Jay is what I call a "straight arrow". I could depend on him to give me an honest answer and advice, and he always found a solution for any problem. He was like an anchor in heavy seas.
I enjoyed his company on and off the job.
