Joan Kathryn Zwisler (nee Nist)

Joan Kathryn Zwisler (nee Nist), just a bit shy of 96 years old, departed her earthly life on September 23, 2018.

Thousands of elementary school students at St. Martha School and numerous at  Akron Public schools benefited from her 30+ years of exceptional teaching. Joan also excelled in a lifetime of sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting and gardening. Her handmade heirlooms are treasured. Foremost, however, were her wonderful cooking skills with many decades of holiday meals and Sunday morning family breakfast gatherings around her kitchen table at her beloved home on Marview Avenue.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Fredrick Zwisler, Sr. (1921-1954); mother and father, Ruth and Ralph Nist; mother and father-in-law, Eva and Irving Zwisler; and son-in-law, Joe Schuster.

Other deceased family members include Rosemary and Bruce Westley; Bill and Marge Nist; Betty and Joe McGraw; Ginny and Bill Siegferth; Bob Dyer; Ernie Bell; Joe Nist; Bob and Margaret Zwisler; Dick and Eva Dell Zwisler; and Bea and Richard Agner.
Surviving immediate family members include Peggy Dyer; Ed Nist, Ruth Nist; and Reta and John Boettner.

Joan's loving children include Don and Georgene Zwisler; Joe and Pat Zwisler; Jim Zwisler and Gary Zeller; Willie and Janet Zwisler; and Peggy Schuster.

Joan's loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Julie Friedel and Sandy McFarland (Jessica); Don and Ali Zwisler (Annie, Donnie, Henry, Owen, Lucy, Levi and Avery); Josh and Christy Zwisler (Aidan and Mason); Dan Zwisler (Daniel, Jack and Patricia); Jamie Zwisler, Sarah and Will Moore; and JoEllen and Nick DeVitis (Landon, Luke, Leo and Ella). Joan is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and their children.

Joan's family wishes to thank the many staff members who lovingly cared for her at the Perkins Building at Concordia Assisted Living and at Cleveland Clinic Hospice on Ridgewood Rd,

Calling hours 2-6 Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd, Fairlawn OH 44333.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11am Monday, October 1 at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
Private Inurnment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Blessed Trinity Parish (Akron) Food Pantry or the Democratic Party. Remember to vote on November 6!

We want to send our love and sincere condolences to you all. Aunt Joan was such a special lady that we all loved and admired. Having had 96 years for family, friends and love is a rare gift. May she Rest In Peace with her family in heaven. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers.
