Eleanore P. Carr (nee Percoco)

Eleanore P. Carr (nee Percoco) 97, a lifelong resident of Akron, passed away on February 10,2018. She was born on June 29, 1920 to the late Liborio (Dick) and Francesca Percoco.

Eleanore graduated from St Vincent - St Mary High School in Akron and went on to attend St. Mary's Notre Dame College in Indiana and Barry College in Florida where she graduated. She didn't stop there. She came back to Akron and  attended two more business schools. She always bragged about attending four schools and never having to work outside the home.

Eleanore was a very independent and strong willed lady having raised three sons as a single parent while accomplishing her goals of being a very successful self made "Financial Investor" and " Investment Property Owner". She always let people know she wasn't going to sit around waiting for her fathers money or any husband to make her fortune for her. She made it to the top in an era when it wasn't fashionable for women to deal in financial and business circles. She held her own with the brokers and bankers and they did business on her terms. They new she was a shrewd investor and on top of her game. It has been said Eleanore became one of the wealthiest self made women in Akron.

As her children we are very proud of our mom for enduring her many trials and tribulations in her personal life and how she overcame them with dignity and respect to achieve as much as she did on her own. We are especially grateful for her love and generosity. Our lives are much better today because of all she accomplished for us.

Eleanore attended St Hilary Parish in Fairlawn and was a member and volunteer of many clubs and organizations in Akron. Her favorite being Junior Women's Civic Club (over 50 yrs) , Friends of Children's Hospital, and the Cassanese Lady's Auxiliary. She enjoyed her many club luncheons especially around Christmas time and telling her many friends stories about her famous and generous father legendary Akron Bail Bondsman "Whisky Dick" Percoco. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining her friends and family in her beautiful luxury condominium in the Village of Brookwood that she loved so much.

We will always remember and miss all the Sunday spaghetti dinners she made for her family. Throughout her life she could be seen driving around West Akron and Fairlawn shopping or going to the bank in one of her many beautiful new Cadillacs or Lincolns  proudly displaying E CARR on the license plate. She loved the attention and compliments those cars gave her. They were always slightly personalized to stand out above the rest.

Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Frank Percoco; sister, Mary McDowell; son, Richard F. LaPilusa, she leaves to cherish her memory sons, William (Donna) Carr and Robert (Ana) Carr; grandchildren, Beth Ann Carr, Kimberly (Kevin) Taylor, Ashley (Justin) Layton. and Richard S. LaPilusa; 5 great-grandchildren, 2 great great- grandchild; sister-in-law, Connie Percoco; and niece, Francis Buckley both of Raleigh, NC, and special friend, Betsy Clark who came to visit our mom on many occasions at the nursing home. We thank you so much.

We would also like to thank The Village of St. Edwards Staff , Mulberry Gardens Memory Care Staff, and ClearPath Hospice for the exceptional care you gave our mom.
