Louis Elias Barbicas 1928 – 2018

Fairlawn – Louis Elias Barbicas, 89 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018.

He was born in the mountain village of Vytina, Greece on June 21, 1928 to parents Elias and Panayiota Barbicas, and was the youngest of six children.

Louie (Louis) left Greece on May 21, 1956 on the Flying Tiger Line Airline, and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts. He started his own asphalt paving business in 1962.

Louie was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the AHEPA Chapter # 63.  His passion was cooking and entertaining his family and friends with one of his favorite recipes:  “baked lemon potatoes.”

Louie is survived by his wife, Carla of 46 years; sons, Elia (Melissa) and John; nephew, Dimitrios (Janette) Fortseras of Tallmadge, Ohio and a number of other nephews and nieces in Greece.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S Union St. Akron, Ohio 44304 with Fr. Jerry Hall officiating.  Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends and family may call from 2:00 – 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S Miller Rd., Fairlawn, Ohio 44333; the Trisagion Service will be held at 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.

So sorry to hear about Louie, he was a great man and will be sorely missed.
