Caroline (Vacarro) DeOrio

Caroline (Vacarro) DeOrio passed away Tuesday, January 2, 1918 after a long and full life at 104 ½ years.

Born in Bonefro, Italy-Abruzze on August 1,1913 to Nicola and Teresa Vaccaro.
She immigrated to the United States at age 2 years old, settling in Akron, Ohio.

For a number of years she worked at O'Neil's Department Store in downtown Akron.

Caroline “Lena” was a member of St. Hilary”s Catholic Church and the oldest
member of Unione Abruzze – “The Italian Center.”

Caroline was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a woman ahead of her time, learning to drive in the 1930's.  
Lena was a talented seamstress, always at the sewing machine working on little girls, prom, formal, wedding and bridesmaids dresses; she was also excellent at all needlework.

Lena lived by her faith-food and family.

Preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1972; granddaughter, Kathleen Sprain; also her brothers, Alex & Dominic Vaccaro.

She is survived by daughters, Rosemary Kish, Paulette Sprain and Carolynn (Richard M.) Capotosto; grandchildren, David Kish, Caroline Sagnelli and Nancy Kapper, Angela Capotosto,    Richard A. Capotosto, Monica McMullen, Nicholas P. Capotosto and Christopher M. Capotosto, Mary Ann Clites, Jay Patrick Sprain, Collen Kapper and Patricia Mathews; 26 great- grandchildren and one great-greatgrandaughter.

Caroline “Lena” was devoted to her family, many friends and extended family.
She will be dearly missed by all.

Calling hours 4-8pm Thursday, Jan. 4 at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn.
Mass of Christian Burial 11am Friday, Jan. 5 at St. Hilary Catholic Church.
Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

What a life well lived!!! Always enjoyed visiting with you and your Mom. Glad we had the pleasure to know this special lady. Always got a kick out of her visits and watching her turn right all the way to Marcs and back!!!
