Francis Mark Shannon

Francis M Shannon, of Mogadore Ohio, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, with his family by his side on May 6, 2017, at the age of 90. He was the son of Lebanese immigrants Jesse and Emmalee Shannon. He was born in Paden City, West Virginia, on December 3rd, 1926. He grew up in Woodsfield, Ohio, and lived the majority of his life in the Akron/ Mogadore area.

His father founded the first movie theater in Woodsfield, Ohio in 1929.  Growing up Francis helped his family run the theatre, running the projectors and performing dancing and musical acts on stage. In 1945 he joined the army, where he served as a motion picture projectionist, at Ft. Lewis, Washington.

He was a graduate of Woodsfield High School. He received his Certifications in Mechanical Drafting in 1950, and Fluid Power Knowledge in 1965.  He spent 47 years as an engineering draftsman and designer.

Francis was a gifted athlete. He led his city industrial softball league in hitting. He was an avid bowler. He loved Tennis, playing well into his 80’s. He coached little league baseball and adult tennis. He was a member of the Mogadore Lions Club for 10 years, and an usher at St Matthew’s Parish for 40 years. He had a kind and gentle spirit and was loved by all who met him. He was a very loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Emmalee Shannon, his wife of 45 years, Josephine Shannon; brothers, Joseph, George, Phillip, and Fred Shannon; sisters, Evelyn Hampton and Madeline Shannon.

He is survived by his brother, Tony (Monica) Shannon of Columbus; sister, Mary (Tom) Tersigni of Costa Mesa, CA; children, Sharon (Steve) Brustoski of Fairlawn,  Mark (Susan) Shannon of Akron  and Matthew (Sonia) Shannon of Caledonia, MI; grandchildren, Michael (Marina) Brustoski, Kristin (Nate) Donze, James, Caroline, Jacob, Matthew Alexander and Jonelle Shannon, and great-grandchild, Adriana Brustoski.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 13th at 11:00a.m. Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 11:00am, at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Road, Fairlawn, Ohio 44333, Pastor Tim Feather officiating. Interment at Ross Hill Cemetery, Fairlawn, Ohio.
