William B. Smith

Bill passed away on March 26th with family at his side.

Bill was born and raised on Long Island, NY.  He graduated from Chaminad High School and earned his Mechanical Engineering degree from Villanova University.

Bill and his wife, Deirdre, lived in Medina, NY and Brantford, Ontario before settling in Akron, OH for the past 42 years.  No matter where he lived, Bill was always happiest at his ski chalet in Ellicottville, NY.
Proudly known as the “Fan”, Bill’s greatest passion was his children and grandchildren.   When he was not busy timing their ski races or attending their games, Bill was an avid skier and tennis player who could dance the Charleston and drink a Manhattan with the best of them.

In addition to Deirdre, Bill is suvived by his brother, Peter; Sister, Maura; four sons, Tim (Kathy), Matt (Missy), Brad (Julie), and Peter (Lindsay); and 13 grandchildren:  Kerigan, Ben, Kasey, Katie, Brendan, Maria, Kameron, Aidan, Travis, Kyle, Christian, Sydney, and Nicole.

The family will receive friends at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.   Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10::30 am at St. Hillary Catholic Church, please meet at church.

Naturally, his burial will be in Ellicottville, NY in May where he will have an outstanding view of the Sunrise Charilift at Holimont.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

We will always be grateful to Bill for conveying the importance of family. We credit him for passing on his love of skiing to Peter and myself which in time has included our children and grandchildren, which I imagine will have a domino effect to future generations.
He will be missed.
With sincere condolences and love to all,
Barbara and Peter

My cousin Billy as we knew him, when growing up. I remember when my first son Christopher was born Dec. 26, 1963, Tim was born shortly after that. I think Jan. ? of 1964. As my aunt Laura told me. To Billy To be a star, you must shine hour own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness for that is when stars shine brightest!

Billy's Aunt Betty (101) was talking about Billy and Peter, Maura two mounts ago. We were surprised she remembered, as we asked who she could remember
With prayers for the family, may God Bless
