William W. Kimble (Bill)
William W. Kimble (Bill), age 96, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 6th, 2019. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, friend, and genuinely sweet gentleman. Bill will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Bill was born November 3, 1922 to the late Edward E. and Mary Haines Kimble. He was a lifelong resident of Akron. Bill graduated from East High School in 1940 and joined the CCC. He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Pearl Forsythe January 9, 1942, just before leaving for Army Basic Training. Bill proudly served in the Army from 1942 – 1946. He was stationed in Virginia, California, Alabama, and Pittsburgh, PA where he attended Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon). He finished his military service in the Philippines supervising Japanese POWs in building airstrips.
Upon returning to Akron, he continued his studies at Akron U and worked full time for Dan Willis Heating Company. Bill was graduated from the University of Akron in 1954 with a Mechanical Engineering degree and began working for BF Goodrich. During his time at Goodrich,
Bill traveled to Mexico, Turkey, and Germany where he and Alice lived for almost 3 years. The friends they worked and lived with in Germany became lifelong friends and they enjoyed socializing and hearing from this German group throughout the years. Bill was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron and was active in various activities and organizations throughout his life including the Jaycees, volunteering at the Firestone Golf Tournament, singing in the church choir, and playing in his work golf league.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice P. Forsythe; his parents, Edward E. and Mary H. Kimble; his in-laws, Alberta and Umble Forsythe; his brother and sister-in-law Robert E. and Marjorie S. Kimble; and his grandson-in-law, Derek W. Kanuho.
Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Derrick L. (Rick) and Lesley Jane Kimble of Munroe Falls; granddaughters, Leah J. Kanuho of West Jordan, Utah, and Rachel E. Cheuk (Stephen) of Laguna Hills, California; and great-granddaughters, McKayla L. Kanuho and Madison K. Cheuk, as well as many close friends.
Special thanks to the Dowling-Antal Family for caring for Alex, Bill’s 15 year old cat companion. The family also wishes to thank Mobile Meals of Akron for providing Bill with a daily meal and visit for over three years and the staff at Danbury Woods in Cuyahoga Falls for their loving care these last 6 1/2 months.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home in Fairlawn (39 S. Miller Rd. 44333). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, (50 N. Prospect, Akron 44304), Rev. David Nevergall officiating, with visitation an hour before the service.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park next to his beloved Alice, and where Firestone VFW Post 3383 will conduct military services.
