Dewey K. Baer

Dewey K. Baer (83) unexpectedly passed away early in the morning of April 1st, 2024 after a brief battle.

He was born in Akron, OH where he spent most of his life. He was a graduate of East High School. After graduating Dewey attended Kent State University and then finished at National Radio School. He was fascinated with television from an early age and spent many years working at Akron Electronics and managing Warren Radio Company. He loved working on TVs and spent many days repairing and troubleshooting for his family, friends and customers. 

He will be remembered for his love of sports; the Cleveland Browns, the Indians, & the Cavaliers and also following his children’s & grandchildren’s teams. He was a founding member of the Springfield/Lakemore Lions club. He will also be remembered for his corny dad jokes (he always had at least one for you) and would help anyone he met as if they were long lost relatives. Dewey measured success in the number of lives he touched and he was an extremely successful man in that regard. He never met a stranger, and had countless acquaintances from his time at Sam’s Club. He also loved music, and played the piano and trumpet in high school and loved his organ and huge record (and vhs) collections. 

Dewey is preceded in death by his father, Ernest (Bud) Baer; and his mother, Della (Drayer) Baer and was followed home just three days later by his younger brother Russ.

He is survived by his sister, Karen (Gary) Francis; his sister-in-law, Linda Baer; his children, Carol (Doug) Mitchell and Thom (Karen) Baer; grandchildren, Eric Brown, Chad (Adilson) Nunes-Brown, Ann (Randy) Marousch, Christopher Mitchell, Torie Mitchell, Logan Mitchell, Salena Mansfield; great grandchildren, Jada Brown, Kaiden Brown, Noah Mitchell, Sophia Mitchell, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and longtime companion, Patty Myers. 

Calling hours will be Friday April 12, beginning at 11:00 am, with funeral services to follow at noon.  The services will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, 44223.  The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Dewey's name.
