Patricia Ann (Patsy) Fortney

Patsy Fortney ,72, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 3, 2017.

Born in Akron, Ohio on February 21, 1945, Ms. Fortney graduated with the Ellet High Class of 1963, then attended Kent State University.  

Ms. Fortney proudly worked for The Harwick Chemical Co. for over 30 years where she made many lifelong friend including, Joy Trent, Mary Velka, Carol Brill, and Sandie McGovern. She treasured the memories of her days at Harwick.  

In 2001 she began her next great adventure in Telluride, CO as Manager of Skyline Guest Ranch where she would lead day long trail rides, herd cattle, and occasionally fight a wildfire. She was forever grateful to the Farney Family for allowing her to realize her dream of becoming a cowgirl.

Ms. Fortney spent her final years in Akron, spoiling her grand-dog Beebo, reminding her son to not drive too fast, and following a diagnosis of Kidney Disease bravely declining dialysis then adopting her own Basset Hound, Daisy.

She is survived by her son, Brian Fortney; cousins, Marcia (Jim) Czerwionka of IL and Douglas (Maggie) Watts of PA; nephew, Michael (Shannon) Fortney and niece, Kasey (Nick) Thomas.  She is also survived by several lifelong friends of note: Cheryl (Bob) Nettles, Robert Hanlon, and Kathy & Jim Pfeiffer.

She was preceded in death by parents, Hugh and Margaret Fortney, brother Hugh “Fuzzy” Fortney; aunt and uncle, Irene and Douglas Watts.

A private scattering service will be held in Telluride, CO later this summer.

The family asks memorials be made in her name to support the ministry of Rev. Maureen Webber of Bath United Church of Christ at 3980 W Bath Rd, Akron, OH 44333.

My sincere thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Patricia Fortney. I hope the words found at Rev 21:3,4 offers much comfort and enouragement to those who loved Patsy.
